Corporate AMEX with Bad Credit

Hi,

I have recently joined a company and who have a policy of issuing corporate AMEX cards. I have bad personal credit and just wondered if this will cause me a problem during the application?

Thanks

  • You should be fine my understanding is that you are simply an additional card holder on the companies corporate Amex account, all the "risk" is on your company so no need to credit vet you.............

You could always contact your new HR and ask but TBH I would tread carefully and deal with it if it besomes a problem it shouldn't though :)

Well don on the new job :)

I am pretty sure you will be credit scored and you will be responsible for paying the card off every month after claiming expenses, not the company.

A company like mine where that is exactly the policy - ie I am responsible for the card. No need to shout btw.
  • We have a coroporate visa card - when applying for an additional card, we have to have a certified copy of their passport and a certified utility bill - this gets sent with the application. The bank says that it's for due diligence etc, we haven't had one refused yet!

We bear the risk of expenses, obviously, if there is fraud on the card, then we put in a complaint to the card company if the holder has confirmed the fraud etc.

I would possibly say, that if the cc company have any issues, they would probably get back to your company and get them to confirm if you could still have a card.
  • Hi all,

As a first time poster, I'm really grateful (and impressed) at the speed of your responses.

As I understand it, I have submitted the application with my passport. The expenses reimbursement is paid by the company not me, so I guess that suggests that the risk is with the company and not me, per se - and a credit check won't be required.

    Fingers crossed then I think

With a lot of companies the card holder is responsible for the card to reduce the risk of a new emplyee going on personal 1 month spending spree. This is of course to reduce the risk to the company. So I guess it depends on how each individual company operates.

If you scroll down you can see the company choose between individual, joint & serveral, or company liabily for their corporate cards.

For my corporate Amex, they did a 'soft' search on my credit file, not a full one i.e. only to check identity.

My company works by the expenses claiming system being linked to amex and listing all your amex transactions. you then claim the expenses as normal, linking the transactions in, and the bill is paid directly by the company.

However it would appear there are different ways of doing it, so I'd contact your HR/payroll people first if you want to know more.
Excuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard
  • As far as i am aware they do a full search. You could get declined unless you already have a card with them.

Also be careful on what you sign. As has been stated AMex will chase you and I mean chase if you spend too much on this card and cant reapy. This includes if your comapany goes bust.

To be honest Amex do anything they can to get the money.
