Have we lost everything ???

My mum had some shares in thomson travel in the late 90's. She doesnt remeber them being bought out and Im assuming that the proceeds of the sale of the company are still held by someone as she probabaly didnt consent. Does anyone know who this would be or whether there is a time limit on recovering the money ? Has she lost it or can it be reclaimed ?

thanks!!!!

Thomson Travel was bought by Tui Travel PLC in 2000, which is quoted on the London Stock Exchange. If you have any documentation, perhaps you could contact the original registrar for more information?

Were they the Founders Club shares, which I think were originally given away for free? If so, as far as I recall Tui decided to cancel them and gave Founders Club members a small amount of cash in return, but you could carry on claiming the same 10% discounts on holidays which were the main perk of/reason to hold the Founders Club shares.

Original address (in 1998) was Thomson Travel Group plc, Founders Club, Greater London House, Hampstead Road, London NW1 7SD, and the Founders Club Information Line was 0870 606 4142, although I doubt this will be of any use to you now.

  • I too invested in he 80's and have since lost all documents in flooding!
  • I was a member of the Founders Club, the shares were not free. If I remember correctly they may have been at a slightly reduced rate. However the main reason for buying was the benefits.

I received a number of letters from a broker acting upon TUIs instruction, but ignored them as I did not want to sell. I later discovered, that when a company owns 90% of another one they have the legal right to buy the remaining shares. After receiving a 3rd letter by recorded post, I sold the shares at a small profit.

As previously stated, I would start by contacting TUI.
