Unless things have changed recently - we got a Sony TV from JL last November. They price matched the Richer Sounds price - which lowered the JL price quite significantly. Sony were also doing a discount if you handed back a TV (which we did) so that was an extra £100 discount, plus it came with the JL 5year TV warranty.
Since then, I've always recommended people to go to JL, as since our purchase, I've found their products to be quite competitively priced. As always though - do your homework first!

They do price match internet prices (it recently changed) - they will match online competitor who has a store in the high street, as long as one of the competitors branches is within the specified radius of the store. They do not price match catalogue stores. It's all on their website if you click on "Never Knowingly Undersold" - all the terms and conditions are on there, just go on their website.
Sorry I'm rubbish at copying and posting links, etc.

As for the price match on toys don't Debenhams only sell Early Learning Centre don't they, John Lewis don't sell ELC toys. The products that are price matched have to be the same in each store.
John Lewis would not price match a Dyson recently because of their 5 years guarantee. In fact their price was over £50 more expensive.

I usually shop with John Lewis but on this occasion felt they were just finding a loop hole!
  • Ooohh! Do you think they will price match the Apple Store on Black Friday? Might be worth a trip to the trafford centre!

Debenhams sell Sylvanian Families and other Toys and Games too and so do John Lewis.

A big thumbs up to John Lewis - I bought a coat online just before the Debenhams sale and then saw that they had reduced it. Sent an email to JL politely asking if it would be possible to offer me the lower price (even though the coat was now out of stock in my size) - a few hours later got a reply saying the difference had been refunded to my card.

That, plus the nice bonus BA Exec Club miles, reminds me why I will always favour John Lewis over other stores!
    Gone ... or have I?
  • The John Lewis "price match" will go on as long as Debenhams have their spectacular, that's what they usually do. They will only price match the Sainsbury Wii offer if the supermarket is within so many miles of one of their branches and if it is actually in stock in the supermarket. I think if you go onto the JL website and click on "Never Knowingly Undersold" they state all the terms and conditions there for price matching products sold in other shops. For example if you buy a tv in JL and see it cheaper elsewhere you will only get it for the same price if it has the same warranty- 5 year guarantee with JL.So if the tv is cheaper but doesn't have a 5 year guarantee included in the price they won't honour it. Not sure if they sell the Wii with an extended guarantee, I would presume they may and if so probably won't price match even if the supermarket is within the required radius of the store.

If it is any help, they price matched a wii with Sainsbury's for me in March. I had bought it at JL & went in to Sainsbury's to shop on the way home and it was ?£40-ish? cheaper. Just called them up, they investigated and phoned back to confirm refund. Great!

This is what I found with the Acer Aspire One 533 which was £70 for the same netbook. They emailed back saying that with a extended warranty with PC World/Currys it would be over their price even though I assume their 2 year guarantees were with their price.

    Not a happy bunny.

This essentially means that they will not price match most high street stores.

It's a total SCAM from John Lewis!
  • IMO John Lewis' cutomer services the extended guarantees are worth spending a little extra on.
Also, I have found that on some items with extended guarnatees, the DO price match (I got a price match on a laptop a few years ago, and it had 3 years warranty rather than the 1 year that their competitor offered.)
