Do Ofgem knock on people's doors?

Thanks folks. I feel better about getting rid of the guy now. I still haven't heard back from Ofgem, but I don't suppose I will for a while. Maybe next time I'll take a photograph of the guys ID.

I've had this. He said he could reduce my bill and when I refused and closed the door he kicked my front door, swore and told me he would get me cut off.
I took a photo of him and called the police. They later told me he was working for an energy company. Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0 -
Just say "before I speak to you just let me set up my video camera.."
See what they say to that..Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!

I sent him off, but I'm concerned now that this is some kind of scam. He claimed to be able to get my bills lowered because I was on the wrong tariff or something. Apparently, lots of people in my post code area have been making complaints. It all just seemed a bit suspect to me.
Are Ofgem in the habit of sending people round to check up on people's bills?
If someone comes to your door and suggests they are from xyz organsisation, and you have reason to doubt that, ask to see their identification
If you are still concerned, take their name, employee number, etc explain they should wait whilst you close the door and you check out their credentials by calling the organisation they claim to be from.
If they are a genuine caller, they will have no issues with you doing this, and will wait patiently whilst you confirm their identity.
If that doesn't prove they are genuinely from the organisation they claim to represent, (or they are not prepared to wait) then call the police immediately using 999."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
In all fairness, it's not right to lump NPower in with crooks.
The latter don't have such a bad name.;)

Whoever this guy was I'll virtually guarantee you that he wasn't from Ofgem. You'd struggle to get Ofgem to talk to you if you contacted them never mind have them door knock to help you.
It may be that he's just some scum bag chancer looking for any vulnerable old people who are trusting enough to let him in to then rob them blind
You could however complain to the ERA if you find he actually is from a particular energy company that is associated with them
