Problem opening Lloyds TSB account

I am an expat staying in the UK and have settled status here. I have been here for more than 5 years now but am having problems dealing with Lloys TSB.
1. Made an application for a classic account online and got a response that since I am not a British National I had to go and make a new application in Branch. Telephoned number on letter and asked why I had to make another application and reply was that it is their system which does not allow details to be sent to branch. Got annoyed for wasting my time filling in information online. Also do not understand why brach can`t simply access deatils and ask for my ID?

2. Went to branch and had my passport, credit card statement and gas bill. Made a new application which is the same with the one I had filled online and unfortunately application got declined because of some adverse credit on my file.

3. Alternative of card cash which I accepted and was later told by the lady who was opening my account that actually a credit card statement was no longer acceptable as proof of address. Gave her my gas bill but was told it is a first gas bill and was unacceptable. Bill is a quartely bill.

4.Went back the following day with my Talk Talk landline bill. Lady who was opening my accoungt wasnot there and bill was photocopied.
5Receieve a letter from Lloyds today saying that my Talk Talk bill is unacceptabtable and that they would need to see a ank statement, credit card statement, which they refused, utility bill (also refused because first gas bill on the address).

Anyone ever received such treatment from Llyods TSB? I have written a compalint and will wait to hear from them

  • The rules have changed very recently by LTSB (not sure about other banks).
I'm pretty sure that they accept credit card statements now (didn't used to) provided it is from UK provider.
Do you know what the adverse information is?
Gas bill should have been ok provided it showed that you had actually consumed gas and was not just a set up bill.
She may have been confused with Talk Talk bill as she may have thought it was a mobile phone bill.
Next time you go to branch ask to see the list of acceptable id on their screens and they and you can't go wrong!
Or drop a few hints that you may be (cough cough) a mystery shopper and will get the red carpet treatment.
