Real life MMD: Cat has licked our food, should we eat it?

Think about it. Even if the cat has licked it, it has only licked the outside. That means if you carefully slice off the outer layer (and only on top or where you know the cat was) then the rest of the joint will be completely unadulterated.
Plus, as it only seems to be the husband who is worried about it, he can still eat the rest with impunity while the wife can keep all the crusty nice outside bits for herself.0 -

This is a big difference to the main question. If the cat gets at the food BEFORE you cook it then you really have very little to worry about. After all, the cat will be no woirse for you than chicken or pork before it has been cooked.0 -
Good tip for stopping cats getting on the work tops, use doubled sided sticky tape in criss crossed lines over the whole work top. If you do it over night I guarantee by the morning the cat will be so annoyed at the sticky tape they wont do it again as they hate things sticking to the paws!
As for the lamb, eat it!! These days were are too worried about germs im sure you have worse things in your mouth over the years!!!

Anyone who says a cat's mouth is harmless has clearly never been bitten by one. I had two weeks on antibiotics in May after an abused rescue bit me, still got a nasty scar.
Cut the bad bit off and eat the rest. Or serve it to someone you can't stand! :rotfl:0 -
I wouldn't eat it0

Of course cat bites are nasty, it penetrated the skin and can cause infection, but i am sure eating something with cat salvia on it wont hurt you.0

Well I'd just trim off the bits the cat licked and eat the rst of the lamb The flip side of this is humans eating pet food - is it harmful? I knew a man who would eat tinned dog food topped with evaporated milk. He did it for years but I think it may have lead to his premature death. One day he was sitting in the middle of the road lickiing his botty when a bus ran over him:rotfl:0

My dilemma is this, our cat, re-homed by us in the summer and absolutely gorgeous, recently bit my partner on the arm and caused such a massive infection he had to have surgery to clear it up. I thought it was a one-off but it nipped me the other day, no harm done this time but now I have trust issues. The vet was useless, said we must have startled it. Didn't.0

If you have a cat you must surely love it like one of the family. In which case if one of the family licked it you probably would eat it. If you don't want to eat it why have a cat?0

I always teach my cats to keep off tables and kitchen working tops, however I'm convinced that cats have more chances of catching illnesses from us, rather than us from them.
I've always had cats and as a little girl I didn't think much about sharing the food of my plate with my pets. My mother used to freak out, but I've never caught anything, even when my immune system was compromised from a childhood disease.
I understand that you don't fancy exchanging saliva with your cat, fair enough, but I'd just cut out the 'offending' piece and not worry too much. Naturally I would not offer it to guests, as I wouldn't want to impose my beliefs on others.0
