Getting rid of meter?
Options
Hi I wonder if anyone can help. I moved house last year and our new house has 3 electricity meters. One supplis the house and one supplies the garage. The other is off (don't think it was ever connected) and was put in by the previous owners 9I think to supply a building in the garden but it never happened).
Anyway the problem is I cannot change energy supplier becasue no-one wants to take over the supply (Well at least Eon and soneone else can't remember who I tried).
Im currently with BG and haven't had a bill for most of the year as every bill they send says estimated read 0000. I keep having to ring them to give them readings as I can't enter the readings online and I'm also stuck on their standard tariff becasue of this.
What I really wanted to know was can I get rid of the second meter and just have one which does all the house and garage? If so, how do I do this? Also are there any advantages to having the two meters?
Thanks

3 meters could mean different things:
1) You could have 3 supplies with 3 meters & 3 meter point numbers (MPANs)
2) You could have 1 supply with 3 meters & 1 meter point number
3) A mixture of the 2.
Questions:
1) Are you being billed for all 3 meters?
2) If yes is there a single supply number (S number) if so you are number 2. In this case you could ask the supplier to remove the redundant meter and possibly swap the other 2 for a single meter depending on load.
3) If yes but you have more than 1 S number then you need to check which meter is on which S number.
4) If no, you aqre not being charge for 1 or more meters.
Whatever the circumstances phone BG give them details of all 3 meters and get them to confirm they are the supplier for them all.
If they are they should be able to arrange to the surplus one(s) to be removed.
If this involves removing a surplus service cable that could be expensive.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
