Replacing MAP sensor in vain attempt to improve MPG?

If you can get it on vag com and monitor the coolant temp it might show less than the 90.
All values, temps, timing etc, meet the ranges specified in the service manual.
It's not just about how quick you go, doing 70 isn't necessarily bad - it's how you get from 0 to 70*, and how you maintain the speed.0 -
thought about what condition your LAMBDA sensor is in? pre or post, the often get clogged and not really stick a fault up as it is reading just not very good? and its a major part or emission and fuel control.
air leaks in intake manifolds can have adverse effect on mpg and throttle body gasket, leaking exhaust gaskets also including manifold.
replacing the oil breather gauze/sponge every so often may also help.
injector cleaner to clean out crap on the nozzels and bores.
using a recommended oil and good quality oil brand helps maintain the engine life and thus MPG and replacing the oil filter same time as oil everytime on an oil change.
letting the engine warm to idle temp from cold before driving will use less fuel and reduce engine wear.
not keeping your foot on the clutch pedal can reduce wear and prevent slight ride and increase MPG i always foot on pedal to change gear then foot off pedal after change. hydrolic clutches will suffer if you rest that foot on the pedal.
( but as you know most of this allready i dont want to come over patronising as thats not my aim)0 -
When was the last time you had your injectors cleaned and flowed?A stitch in time means you can't afford a new one.0

I find a difference in my mpg when I use supermarket fuel, though my car is a TDCI Mondeo which has a reputation for being very sensitive to fuel quality, or more likely the quality of the additives, regardless of the actual cause my Mondeo gives up to 5 mpg less on Tesco diesel, usually use Esso which costs the same near me anyway.
When using Tesco diesel, it also lacks power, and for some reason smokes more on hard acceleration.
But as mentioned you are as likely to get an improvement by changing your driving style.
I though the 1.4 mpi was a development of the 1.3 VAG engine, whereas the 1.6 was a Skoda engine, though I may have got these mixed up.
And older VAG cars in petrol form where never known for great economy, even the great 1.9 TDi engine wasn't brillient by modern standards but was much better than the XUD that it was up against at the time.
At the end of the day technology moves on.0
