There used to be 2 electricity companies in Scotland.

South of Scotland Electricity Board and North of Scotland Electricity Board which became Hydro Electric

South of Scotland Electricity Board was based in Glasgow and covered west, central and south Scotland. That became Scottish Power

SSE is the old Hydro Electric company that covered north and east Scotland and is still called Hydro Electric by their older customers .

SSE was formed by the merger of Scottish Hydro and Southern Electric. It later bought Swalec and their customers.
They now use all three brand names in Scotland, England & Wales respectively - it's all marketing.
In the same way as Scottish Gas & British Gas are different names for the same company (and occasionally Nwy Prydain)

As I said it is still Hydro Electric in Scotland. Even when the bloke comes round to try to persuade me to go back he refers to it as Hydro Electric.

You have to get your electricity from Hydro Electric, after all it says property of Hydro Electric on your meter.

But then again, I am not a pedant.

I could have explained that, but she did say she was blonde.
