A cheque clearing question

I put a cheque into my bank account on Saturday (14th), hoping it would clear so that i could pay £500 into my A&L account on the 20th but it hasnt cleared yet. Does anyone know how many days it takes to clear before i ring India.

  • LTSB pay in monday available friday (includes cheques paid in from saturday as they are held in branch over weekend and sent off with monday's work)
  • I don't think A&L is a "clearing bank" so it generally takes an extra 1-2 days for cheques to clear because it has to go through an extra "level" of processing

Not if it's a current account it doesn't. If it takes a stated 7 days to clear then you must be paying it into a Savings account.

A lot of banks don't do their own 'Clearing' as it's a highly specialised job and with an increasing need to invest in high spec / cost hardware and software. So they clear via a Clearing House .... but are still mandated to stick to APACS regulated clearance times. So ... regret the extra 1 - 2 days is simply not true.

Yes - it wouldn't leave the Branch for Clearing until close of business Mon night. And possibly later, with the odd Bank, if you put it in an ATM??

You either have a savings account or a easy cash / card cash (basic) not current account
