Ikea faulty mattress

Hi

Was just wondering if any one here has any info regarding getting an Ikea mattress replaced under their warranty ?

I have called them today to be told I have to take it back to the store i brought it from, not the newer local store. They will then inspect it and maybe/maybe not replace it.

The store i brought it from is over an hour away, we no longer have private use of other half's work van so no means of getting it there! I also have no idea where the receipt is! We brought it sometime in 2005 but also brought a whole kitchen and a ton of other bedroom furniture for kids aswell so even if i provide bank statements, i have no idea which transaction it would have been on

The mattress itself was a deluxe one with springs and memory foam (about £250 or around that mark from what i can remember). The springs are now poking out of the memory foam and its gone from being a very very comfortable bed to awful in the matter of a few days :(

I was talking to someone recently who had a faulty mattress (not from Ikea, it was one of the big brands), and an inspector from FIRA came to inspect her mattress. While he was there he told her that he spends most of his time inspecting faulty Ikea mattresses.

So obviously the people whos mattresses he inspected didn't have to take it back to the store for inspection.

just to let you know, i emailed the CEO of Ikea and someone from his office got back to me to say that i can pick a replacement mattress of my choice and i do not need to take the old one back to the store !!

Apologised greatly and pretty much said they do not need to inspect it, see it or anything else - just pick one and they will arrange to deliver a new one to me :)

    Nice one.

I think they would normally send an inspector, but they obviously don't want the bad press.
