Do I have to renew my Car Insurance even I am not driving during my holiday?

My car insurance will expire on 15th December morning. And I am going aboard for holiday right on 15th December for more than half a month. Is there any problem if I get new insurance after I come back and start to drive? Is there any legal issue to have a gap bewteen my old insurance and new one? Thank you.

Unless your car is going to be off-road in a garage or on guaranteed private land (some drives and parking spaces aren't legally on private land) you need to have your car insured at least third party.

Also my car insurance is due in December and paying it in December is cheaper than at other times of year.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

No legal issue, as long as it isn't on the road or a public place etc.

You are taking the risk your car isn't stolen or burnt out whilst it's uninsured.

Ohh, it will be parked just out side my flat. Off street parking though. My neighborhood is rather safe I think. But what you said does scare me a little bit.

    not worth the risk imho.

just renew before you go, then enjoy your break with the peace of mind that should your vehicle be stolen/written off/broken in to, then you are fully covered.

put it another way...can you afford to fork out for a new car should the worst happen?

  • No! Please make sure you insure it. I got back from a fortnight away to find that my 4 month old car (With full immobilisor, alarm etc) had been stolen from the driveway outside my parents, on a private road in what was considered to be a very nice area.

It was recovered after a crash with a taxi, and if I wasn't insured I would have had to pay for the recovery, AND a hire car for the time off the road as well as £7k of repairs!

So I would seriously consider whether half a months premium was worth the peace of mind.
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before

It really isnt worth the hassle.

Another point, what if, after having such a wonderful holiday, your mind is on that and all the catching up to do at home and work and you forget to insure it.

    Have a nice holiday.:j:j:j
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
