Car Accident- Please Help!

Hi, I am a 19 year old male and a named driver on my fathers insurance and car. I was recently involved in a car accident that wasn't my fault. A white transit van decided to reverse out without looking straight into the side of my fathers renault clio:mad:. After sorting everything with the insurers to do with information about the incident I was told that the man had taken full responsibility for the accident. However a few days after the insurer sent out a company to pick up the clio and fix it, I was told I wouldn't have to pay any of the excess. This company then rang me today to say that the car is a write off. Although I wasn't injured in the accident, could I still claim any sort of compensation as me or my father no longer have a car to drive. Meaning my mother has to give lifts to work which is a real pain. The insurance is fully comp and also contains legal cover which is why I'm asking. Help Please!
Thanks,:(

Hi Matt, you should check your policy if you have legal cover then contact them and let them know you need a rental car until the claim is settled, if you have the payment for your car then you probably wont get a cover car, if you policy covers you a car that they can claim the cost of from the other party then the legal cover should be advising you of this but double double check then check again as you dont want to be landed with the rental car costs. Usually if you policy gives you a car in the case of an accident then its only until yours is repaired but if its wrote off then then pay out so no car provided in the mean time. Only know this because my son has just written off his clio and for two weeks while they decided what was happening we didnt get a car to use and I have had to add him to my insurance and also give lifts like your mum. Crazy I know but thats the world of car insurance bit of a rule unto themselves. Hope it works out ok for you.0
