I have attempted to join stawarm with the following useage figures for a 3 bedroom semi detached house

Gas 19392 kwh year
Electricity 4834 kwh year

they tell me that my gas is ok but the electricity is to high,I was told that they based their decision on average consumption figures yet Martins maximum figures in the staywarm article are higher than mine and every web site i have been agree that for a 3 bedroom semi detached house my figure are below the average. They refuse to tell me thair maximum consumption figures Can anyone throw any light on this problem?

We were with Staywarm until April this year, and I was told at renewal in August 2009 that our electricity consumption was high at 4453 kwh for the previous year. That was for a 3 bed semi. They then decided that as it was only slightly over the limit we could stay on the lower price level which was £93.69 per month they originally wanted to put it up to £128. I keep track of the consuption myself so decided as my usage was about the same as the previous year I would cancel at the begining of the summer rather than pay £93 all through the summer and have then jack up the price in August. I chose to pay £90 a month to my new supplier and am £223 in credit for Gas and £84 in credit for the Electricity, and that is after the latest bills last week. I know I have the winter to get through but I am sure it will still be cheaper.

EDF Energy online saver version 6 dual fuel. I did a comparison with last years meter readings (mine own readings not Staywarms) and it came out £19 a month cheaper. O f course the price could go up but thats a chance we take.

    Hi tammy

I'm sorry you're unable to join Staywarm.

Staywarm is a particular type of tariff which allows participating customers to use as much energy as they wish for a set monthly payment. As such, there are certain thresholds above which we are unable to offer the product.

These thresholds are determined by a variety of criteria including property size, number of occupants, type of heating, vulnerability and region.

We've also taken guidance from Ofgem, the industry Ombudsman, about average amounts of energy used across the UK.

Each request to go on Staywarm is looked at individually. Given the figures posted, I would say you aren't too far away from being accepted on to the scheme.

If you're still interested, a few energy saving measures may bring you in under the threshold.

Alternatively, I'd pop your usage on to one of the comparison sites. This will show all your options, both with us and the other suppliers. It may well be there is tariff much better suited to your needs.

Hope this is useful tammy. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.
