Hi everyone.
We got 2 guinea pigs in June and I have been fine with them and giving them cuddles and sitting them on my lap etc but all of a sudden my eyes have started to get really itchy and swell. I am pregnant do you think this could the reason and if anyone has experienced this does it get better once the baby is born?
My DH still takes them in and cuddles them but they keep looking at me with those little doe eyes LOL

Have they picked up any mites? It possible if they have, that you are reacting to them and not the g-pigs themselves0

Did you change their food/hay/bedding? It could be spores or things in those products that you are allergic to and not your piggies?Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

This happened to my friend when she was pregnant. Unfortunately her husband was less willing to muck in and help, so the GP came to live with me, so I don't know if it would have got better or not. Theirs was a single female GP and I already had 2 female GP's, so was able to persuade them all to live together.0

Thanks for your replies.
My DH always changing their bedding and feeds them (I see to DD in the morning he sees to the guinea pigs
). One of them did have mites a couple of months ago but we treated them and there seems to be no problem now.
It is just maybe one of these things that happens to us when we are pregnant. Will just have to try and not touch them too much and my handling days are over for the mo. Let's just hope things go back to normal when bubs is born!:)"That's no reason to cry. One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad."0 -
This happened to me as well (i'm not pregnant). I've various had guinea pigs from the age of 5. When I turned 20ish I suddenly developed an allergy and can not longer go anywhere near guinea pigs, my eyes swell, I can't stop sneezing and I get a rash on my skin.Virgin CC=£2652, Next= [STRIKE]£102.88,[/STRIKE] Very=£475.60, Natwest=£800, Sainsburys CC=£1777.02, Lloyds CC=£498.29, Lloyds Loan= £13,946.18, Car=£4000Total = [STRIKE]£26,147.23[/STRIKE] £23,849.09:eek:0
