Think you will find 'Sold as seen' stands in court
Think you need to read up on car sellers rights0 -
only when selling to other traders or private sales (though the goods still have to be of merchantable quality)
as the consumer direct link above states "Some dealers may use disclaimers such as ' Sold as Seen', 'Trade sale Only' or 'No Refund' to try and limit your rights. However, these rights cannot be taken away or restricted by a dealer."
the problem you have with used cars is that it's all about expectations, you have more "rights" on a 4 year old £10k car than a 10 year old £10000 -
Just reject the damn thing in writing, you've given them plenty of chances to repair.
Get a few mates and all stand outside with a placard saying that they sell dodgy cars, that will grab their attention.0 -

Care to back this with any case law or legal basis?
Sold as seen doesnt stand up unless the car was advertised and clearly discussed and transacted as sold as seen - not the case
and the price and condition is sold as seen territory - not the case
Therefore the dealer writing this on the invoice is irrelevent.0 -
Described in an Auto Trader advert as being in "excellent condition", it was sold with a receipt using the phrase "sold as seen", which is now illegal because it is a phrase designed to remove some consumer rights.

My concern would be that the dealer will use any Sold as seen or alike signage to avoid the buyer any right to make such a claim back, we must agree that any such wording will make any claim at least more harder to gain a well worth outcome.
The garage is question needs looking over regards there business details.
I have just looked on the said website and see that it states 'Time moves on... But quality remains the same'
Rather a odd statement, specially when cars back then were not that reliable and any such a claim should be looked upon as an avoid warning!0 -
