do i just connect the two PCs together using this cable? - Yes, you will also need to run "Internet Conncetion Sharing" (I think it's called that) so that one is set as host (where the main connection is) and the other is set up to connect to the host.

will i have a connection on both comps - Yes

will they be connected at the same time?? - Yes

Some problems I have found is that if you have a fire wall on both you sometimes don't get a connection due to the fire wall blocking one or both computers IP address. What I did was set a static IP address on both and then configured the fire wall to allow access to that address.

I use a router now and don't have those problems :P

Easier to buy a router though, and you dont need to have on pc1 to act as a gateway for pc2.
