V+ Box Problem

Hi,
I bought a V+ box from Ebay, to go in as a replacement for an existing box which I have upstairs, the problem is that it will not go past the AP52 on boot up, can any one advise me as to what to try to get this to work, or is the box broken. Have contacted Virgin but they will not look at boxes bought from elsewhere.

nah it wont work, virgin media have to add the MAC address of the box to their system for it to work, if you bought it to replace a broken V+ box then you have been taken for a ride as virgin 'own' their boxes so will repair and replace a broken box for free.
but I reckon you have bought it to replace a standard V box which in that case it wont work because 1. the MAC address has to be added 2. the extra service has to be activated on your account and to do that you have to call them up and pay the £99 activation fee which comes with the V+ box for free (and if it is multiroom then the multiroom fee aswell which is the same price as the multiroom you are paying now)
so I'm afraid you have wasted your money
ps how much did you pay for the box?
edit also you need a new smart card that comes with the new box and the £99 fee when you order it from virgin.0 -
Congratulations, you've bought a very expensive door stop.
The is nothing you can do!! You have bought STOLEN PROPERTY as the boxes remain the property of VM at all times.Once the boxes are disconnected from the network they are useless as they are completely locked out &,if you contacted VM as the box you bought wont work, they have more than likely passed your details onto the fraud department for investigation. The box can also be tracked on the VM network by it's IP address & MAC code.
I gather from your avatar you are in Scotland,so you would be on the old Celtic NTL network, which is the network I worked on.(Celtic network is Scotland,Wales & NI)
If you had contacted VM with issues over your box upstairs, they would have changed it for free as,unlike Sky where you own the box 7 if something goes wrong, you have to pay for it to be fixed, because you dont own the equipment from VM,a box swap for a faulty box is free.
ANY NTL/VM equipment you see on E-Bay ect is STOLEN.
Section 'E' here;

PS.AP52 means no signal is being recieved, which is why the box wont boot up.

I once went into the local cash converters on my lunch & saw a Samsung NTL box on the shelf,so I took it down & called the office, gave over the MAC code off the box bottom to trace it back.
Bossman told me to take it so I went to the cash converters till, the sales erk said something like"that'll be £25" to which I replied I had been ordered by my boss at NTL to repo the box.
Their manager came over & started to give off to which I replied I'll call the cops & they can explain why they're selling stolen goods, especially as a sticker on the bottom of the box says property of NTL......:D0 -

thanks for the replies to my question, I will enlighten everyone to my predicament,
I upgraded my VM package from XL to XXL (50meg BBand), when this was being done the engineer changed the extra box we have upstairs for a new cisco hd box, (this is where my problem begins),
the old box had coaxil input/output, which was plugged into a three way splitter which in turn sent the signal to the two other bedrooms and downstairs into the kitchen, (hope you are keeping up so far), the new cisco box has only HDMI/SCART outputs, so by upgrading I have now lost tv in three other rooms, I contacted VM the next day about getting an old box back from them, but was told this was not possible, spoke to the C/S manager and was told that he would install 2 other boxes for £11pm. This was a nice gesture but I still would not have tv in my kichen. That is why I rather nievley bought a V+ box from ebay for £20.00, I have contacted the seller and am waiting for a reply.
And just to set the record straight I am not in the habit of buying stolen goods!!!.

Suggest you return the box to VM, as you are now in receipt of stolen goods.
The buyer will no doubt plead ignorance...No free lunch, and no free laptop

..........Then what happened?
They traced the owner back & he had his service disconnected, turns out he had bought a chipped NTL box & sold the unchipped one on.(You can trace chipped boxes from the street cabinet due to the noise they dump onto the netowrk not to mention chipped boxes show up as non-responsive on the network)NESSIEHUNTER wrote: »thanks for the replies to my question, I will enlighten everyone to my predicament,

Did'nt say you were in the habit, just pointed out what you had done.
The was a bloke over here in NI who was advertising chipped NTL boxes on flyers he was bunging around belfast.Needless to say he got caught, prosecuted & given time inside for his stupidity. (I gather he had his home phone number on the ad flyer)
As to your problem,The error code means the is no signal being detected so it's possible the box has a broken 'tuner' or is completely locked out.IIRC back a few years,When a new box is installed, the box starts to boot up & get's a 'handshake' from the network & performs what we used to call 'the hit' where the card & box are paired up & the functions activated. If the card & box do not match what is on record, then the hit is refused & the box starts all over again.
As to contacting the seller,I doubt he'd reply, but good luck,Id send him a copy of the T&C's I posted above to back up your claim.0
