Taking food through security

Travelling with Jet2 at Newcastle airport this weekend.
We always pop to boots once in departure to buy their meal deal to eat on the plane, but wondering if we can just make up sandwiches and take them through security?
I was thinking I can't take drinks through and just 'presumed' food was the same?

you can take sandwiches/food through security, just no drinks.0

It's liquids, creams and gels that are banned - not 'food' or 'drink'. And maybe powders - not sure about them these days
So it depends what the food consists of. Most if not all sandwiches should be OK. Yogurt would probabyy be a no-no - even the thick sort.0 -
yes food is fine, you can always buy a drink once you are through security & airside.
Have fun0 -
According to Phatbear (previous post) he could not take sweet and sour pork through with the sauce in a seperate package but if he tipped the sauce into the container with the pork it was OK.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Not strictly true it was sweet and sour chicken!
Oddly enough i've also brought a large quantity of 9mm pistols airside and that was ok but had a bottle of coke taken off me a week later which I had left in one of our cars.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
Well I always take a picnic through. Nobody has commented before when the handbag goes through the scanner but last time I travelled through Liverpool, I realised my mini pot of hummus and mini Sainsbury's cheesecake (both in manufacturers sealed snack size portion pots of less than 100g!!) would be considered "pastes/creams" so I dutifully stuck them in the plastic bag with my lipgloss and mini toothpaste.
Well, what a performance the middle-aged woman at Liverpool security made, even though they were sealed pots within size......because, she said, the quantity wasn't marked on the pots although the same is true of the pots into which I decant toiletries when on short trips with hand luggage only and I can't see any requirement in the regs that says weight/volume needs to be displayed on individual items.
I thought the best plan was to stay passive, let her enjoy her moment of playing God with my picnic and smile gratefully when she finally said, "Oh go on then, I wouldn't want to deprive you of your food" , whilst inwardly thinking "**** you , mrs!"0
