  • what security do you use? It should get rid of it.

But as per the normal thing to do here is http://www.malwarebytes.org/ download that update to newer editions then run a full scan. Post your log here because the clever people will be able to look at it closer for you.

they are very good on here for that

McAfee but it hasn't detected it though.
I tried to download the above link, but it won't run (I'm using firefox if that makes a difference, IE won't open)

  • you wil be lucky if mcaffee even detect that its been installed itself

run malware bytes as said above

and probably get rid of mcaffee its such a pain and slows machines down so much.

you almost need a seperate PC to run mcaffee on its such a memory and cpu eating program

Sorry, are you saying you can't download Malwarebytes or you have downloaded Malwarebytes but the programme won't run/open?

If you can't download go into safe mode with networking and try downloading Malwarebytes, once you have downloaded Malwarebytes open it and update it first before running a scan.

I can't run malware bytes, and my Dad is insistent that I have it. I know it's rubbish but he paid for my laptop so yeah.

I have downloaded the set up but it won't run or open.

Yes, try checking for updates first if it will let you and then scan your computer.

Are you sure it is just spyware? I picked up a virus at the weekend. Just on CNETs website (very much doubt it originated from there) and XP antispyware 2011 downloaded itself. I followed the method 1 on this http://www.myantispyware.com/2010/11/12/how-to-remove-xp-antimalware-2011/ it disabled most of it and malwarebytes removed what was disabled but it still left false alarms. So I used method 2, ran malwarebytes on a full scan and it finally removed it all (I think).

I ask because this latest version blocks you from opening any programs and connecting to the internet and it seemed to be able to prevent me from booting in safe mode, it was just hanging.
