Hi there I am facing a medical board in 3 weeks time and found out on friday that i am more than likely going to be discharged from service. (news i was not expecting until friday)
I have since dug out my life insurance policy which i thought covered me in the event of loosing my job so i could still maintain my payments etc for debts and other outgoings. I rang them today to see how i would go about claiming if i was idscharged from service (the whole reason i took out the policy after an injury) to be informed that it does not cover me for job loss it will only cover me for sickness and criical illnessthis is not what i was lead to believe at the time of taking out the policy i am currently awaiting a call from them as i have raised a complaint about miselling the policy to me!!!
another problem i have is that my 2 loans do not have any ppi cover on them and now this policy won't pay out what am i to do????

its stressfull enough that i have just found out my 12 year career is over and also any possiblity of continuing my trade in civvy street :( that and also loosing my home as i am a single mum in married quarters i really am at a loss what to do next in a major panic

thankyou in advance for your responses and any advice is gratefully recieved.
please no negativity i dont think i could take it

  • sorry to hear that, if its a medical discharge do you not get some sort of payout or something ? and do you not get ur "half pension" after 12 years service? half your final wage or summit,

don't raise your hopes on this too much, i aint got no jsp volume to back it up , just rumour control you know,
  • hi yeah i'll get a pay out but was hoping to invest some of that for my son and live off the rest until i get a job.
i will get a medical pension which is payable almost immediatley.
just annoyed been paying a policy which i thought would cover me for unemployment if it should happen to find i am not atall covered its really annoying and upsetting really.
I spoke to the complaints dept and i have to wait for them to send me their results and then if no joy have to go to finacil onbudsman

Surley your med centre should have given you an idea of what was going on. What is the time period from boarding to discharge?

As for losing your trade, with out knowing you medical condition it is hard to give advce. (Not that I am asking about your med details, but surley there is something you can do trade related)

Reseltment? surley your entitled to this?
Proud to have dealt with our debts

  • yes i'll get ressetlement. I will be paid up until march I knew the med board was coming but had to wait until last friday for mri results to see if my problem was fixable. (basically had ankle reconstruction which worked really well but unfortunatley have no got complications~) results weren't good and now am looking at having to retrade as i will be unable to stand for long periods.
  • I can definitely say contact SSAFA regarding your situation. I know someone that did and they have been brilliant! They will help where they can with your housing situation.

    Good luck hun!

  • You should refer yourself to the Army Welfare Service and see if they can help. You can access them thro your Unit Welfare Officer. They are based throughout the UK and overseas.:)
