HELP! Europcar tyre charge
Just wondering if anyone had any advice on my experiences. I will try and keep it short as its been going on for months!!
I hired a car for 2 days off Europcar and when i received it, it was not the car i ordered and dented all along one side. When the rental was over i received a charge to my card for 120 euros plus VAT for a new tyre. The car wasn't checked on return so i have been arguing the point for months. The customer service has been awful with regards to this. They then sent me the bill from the garage and it states £110 euros!!! So they have blatantly tried to hit me twice. One for the apparent tyre damage i caused and also by overcharging me as well.
I could post my e-mail trail as there were other issues but wont bore you and it would take a week to read!!
So can they charge me for the tyre and secondly is it against trading standards or something like that to add more money to the actual cost of the tyre??
Thanks in advance

didn't make my post that clear..... yes i knew about the damage on the car but never checked the tyres and when i returtned the car there was no tyre damage and no they did not check on return.
receiving a dented car shouldn't happen either way, not what i hired.
Also, is it legal to charge me 120 euros when they have already sent me the original repair bill for 110 euros (dont think they meant to send it!!)? Must be some sort of trading standards thing on this?0 -
When you picked the car up were the tyres inspected and the tyre depth written on the acceptance form? If so any replacement tyre charge could only be levied against the life that was left on the tyre! Hence if the tyre was 1/2 worn if you damaged the tyre you would be expected to pay half the price of a new tyre.
Secondly did they not give you a receipt for the charge the extra 10euro could be for admin or exchange rate?0 -
They can charge you for taking the car to the garage to have the tyre done. They can charge you for loss of hire fees whilst it was being done.
You've probably got away lightly.0 -
A few years ago I was told they never repair a punture, always charge the last person to hire the vehicle for a tyre if they find a punture.0
