Credit card transaction claim

Hello
My friend bought an air ticket ONLINE for some Turkish-Cypriout Airlines for £300 through Llyods TSB credit card (he is a current account holder with them too) on 21st May 2010.
Unfortunately for him, the airline went bust and so did his money (as he thought).
He discussed this me and I told him that if he bought the ticket online through his credit card and if its worth more than £100, the credit card company should offer him a refund.
He has contacted the card helpline and they say they cannot help him as his claim is more than 4 months old.
Is this a fair response? Does he have any more options?
Thanks..

The 4months timescale relates to claims under the VISA chargeback rules (for debit cards and for payments under £100 on Visa credit cards).
There is no specific timescale for a claim under Section 75 - have a look here to see if he is eligible and how he should be claiming - http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/section75-protect-your-purchases
