southern electric = numpties

Options
hello all!
some advice needed please,

i switched away from southern with a balance of £400+ 18 months ago and set up a DD to pay back a combined amount of £45 for 9 months to clear the balance.

recently housecleaing my online banking i saw the old DD and cancelled it since it had been inactive (supposedly!) for 9 additional months by this time.

today i recieved a letter from them saying my DD has been canccelled at my end and i still owe £276!

on calling it appears the lady who 'helped' me 18 moths ago only set up the DD for the electric and not the gas, JOY!

i know that i still owe the money but how far can i push it? can i offer them £1 a month?!

thanks for any help,

As you are no longer their customer, you can offer them what you like. They will no doubt moan a lot but will accept in the end as there is nothing else they can do. You can pay very little if you're on benefits, otherwise pay a little more so that they aren't tempted to take you to court for the court to set a bigger amount.
