Unresponsive wireless mouse

Morning.
My desktop PC has a wireless mouse and keyboard and the mouse is now unresponsive, won't move. I have changed the batteries but it's made no difference. Does this mean it's kaput and it's time for a new one?
Additionally, my PC is showing a heavy CPU usage (moving between 10% - 70%) with only BBC homepage open. Just changed the old white BT home hub for a new black one the other day, however the 2 laptops on the network are working fine as are various other bits which are run on ethernet cables.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Press the connect button on the receiver at PC and on the mouse.0

Also check that nothing is interfering with the receiver at the PC. Have you got something metal between there and the mouse? I ended up with the receiver for my mouse on the end of a short USB cable, just to get it a little distance away from the computer case. But even without the cable the mouse still worked, albeit intermittently. Could be you mouse is dead if new batteries haven't sorted it.
