E-mail problem (UK Online / Gmail)

Morning All,

I wonder if anyone would be so kind as to help me. For the last couple of days my Outlook has been giving the following message when I try to send e-mail. Receiving e-mail is working fine. My ISP is UK Online and my e-mail is with Gmail.

Any advice very much appreciated, as I have tried rebooting etc but no joy. I haven't made any changes to my Outlook settings between when it worked & when it didn't.

Best Regards,
Penny

  • Thanks sjd25.

I did check this first of all. My confusion is that I haven't changed anything in my settings between when it did work and when it didn't.

I would have thought if either gmail or my ISP was making such a change then they would let everyone know (perhaps that's me being optimistic!).

I will give it a try none-the-less - It just seems very strange.

    Regards,
    Penny

I don't know if it's related but Ukonline have been having major problems with their email servers in the last couple of days.

  • Thanks superscaper. I tried their recorded line and it says they're not experiencing any problems at the moment, but I suppose there is a chance things are now resolved but I can't check cause I'm at work now. I wasn't keen to phone their 25p/min technical support!

Out of interest, how do you know they've been experiencing problems? As I mentioned, I'm rather reluctant to think it's a problem on my side because I've not changed anything.

I think it was day before yesterday their recorded message said so and the day before that they were having "power" problems for their broadband customers. I only checked because my mum (and then rest of family) couldn't download emails at all from ukonline. Then yesterday my mum started getting a whole load of completely blank emails without any headers even. Even now there seem to be too few emails compared to average. Strangely this all completely coincided with Orange broadband going down for a lot of customers (maybe they share some servers?).
