Buying/renting domain multiple names (.com / .co.uk etc)

Options
Hi Guys,
My question is whether or not it is advisable to use different domain registration companies for different domain extensions on the same URL in order to get best prices.
I’ve got an idea for a business and the URL I want is available across all the extensions I want (first time ever!). I’m British but moved to New Zealand 12 months ago... the domain extensions I wish to register are:
.com
.co.uk
.co.nz
.com.au
.net (maybe some more at a later stage)

The .com & .co.uk is well priced with 123-reg but com.au & co.nz are cheaper with Australian companies such as crazydomains.co.au.
Go daddy are quite good overall but they’re .co.nz price is huge ($60/yr).
So I’m thinking maybe I could go with the cheaper suppliers for each area (I’ll probably limit it to 2 different suppliers).
Is this a good idea do you think? Am I even allowed to use 123-reg.co.uk if I am no longer based in the UK? (I do still visit regularly)
I’ve used 1&1 in the past for hosting a site but the business is far from ready for hosting/building etc yet and all I want to do is reserve the domain names so I can get the ball rolling.
Any advise would be very much appreciated.
Cheers
Jay

  • I would go for the cheapest option for each top level domain, at the end of the day the domain is yours whilst the registration is current, the like of 1&1 123-reg fasthosts and godaddy are only registering for you (for a fee, and for their other services) but make sure you are the domain owner, and they are just the registering service. Also don't forget that some have Ts&C that re-register unless you opt out, and in that case don't forget to re-register when due.
