Ground Floor Flats?

I don't get this "ground floor flats are more of a security risk" thing at all. After all, every house has a ground floor so what's the difference? I live in a ground floor flat at the moment (shortly moving to a 1st floor one) and I do get bothered by people taking their rubbish to the bins via the block's back door which is next to my front door, and I do hear people clumping up and down the stairs as they are the other side of my lounge wall. Having said all that however I think the advantages of being on the ground floor outweigh the disadvantages.0

a key thing i think about is how much noise am i going to make and will it annoy the people below me.
I would prefer ground floor and put up with noise above me just so i dont feel like im walking on egg shells not to disturb anyone who would have been below me.0 -
The old women below me are so deaf i can turn my tv down and listen to theirs when we are watching the same tv programs! so noise does travel upwards! My flat has concrete floors and walls and never hear my sidewards neighbours!!--a good side affect is i have never worried about my noise levels annoying them!!-the block ha a clause on the lease requiring the main areas of the flats be carpeted--old fashioned but very efficiant in dampening shoe noise!!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

We had a ground floor flat, but it was a victorian terrace conversion so had a garden, freehold, high ceilings etc. Dead easy to sell in London where gardens are at a bit of a premium in the FTBuyer category.
We did get broken into, but that was more to do with bad locks, as they came straight in through the front door!0
