I found some cheap pretty card boxes in a card shop last year. Might be worth trawling throught them. It was cxalled 'the card store' I believe.

I also got some lovely cheap boxes in wilkos. They have them nearer to christmas.

Might be cheaper to buy card/thick paper from the stationers and make your own gift boxes.

Here are some sites with templates for gift boxes; you can print them off, enlarge/reduce/adapt them:-

    Stampington

    Flower box template

    Printable templates at about.com

    Box and Bag templates

    Chest/Heart/Pyramid/Pillow Box Templates (PDF)

Hopefully some of those will inspire you (and save you a few pennies ;) )

In addition to Queenie's links, if anyone wants a cracker-shaped box template, I couldn't find one on the links so have put one together.

Made to fit an A4 sheet (in both directions), it gives a rectangular container area of approx 5.5cm x 5.5cm x 8.5cm.

Cut the diamond shapes out, crease along the long lines, overlap the two end panels and stick, then use some ribbon to pull the ends in like a cracker.

If after resizing the ends don't quite sit 'right' when tied, the trick seems to be to lengthen the diamond cut-out

    Hope it's useful to someone

I usually get them at Target or WalMart, a dollar store might have them but I've never seen plain ones there, I've seen them at dollar stores with pictures on them but they were always so ugly!

Not being rude ! but where most of us MSErs live we spend pounds! so dollar shops and Walmart are not round the corner!
Boxes can be painted with emulsion paint, decorated with emulsion paint and then varnished with acrylic varnish. It's a great way to recycle free shoe boxes- first size shoe boxes are especially good.

  • I have done hamper style for my kids and both of our mums before but I used a large lidded box, put all the small gifts and filled it up with those quaver style polystyrene packaging chip things making them a lucky dip. The kids loved them so much they got one each year until the youngest was about 14....It became difficult to do as by then small gifts are really expensive gifts!
    Cheaper than using individual boxes.
An alternative to boxes would be those triangular packets made for sweets that are really cheap on Amazon...tie with a ribbon to make it look more special.xx
