Phone the job centre first thing tomorrow and explain what has happened. They might ask you to sign on another day or ask you to sign by post. Make sure you call before you are due to sign on though, then it doesn't look like your making up excuses.
  • Hi Kent
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, it must feel like nothing else matters at the moment.
I can only urge you to call the jobcentre first thing and explain your situation. Ask if you can delay your signing until later in the week.
If you don't make any contact at all, they may well close your claim, so please give them a ring x

  • Can't you tell my brain isn't working?..Thank you .Of course it's (hopefully) as simple as that ...
  • Think if I really had to go and sign on tomorrow I'd tell them where to put their "looking for work" booklet ..as for filling it in ..forget it...
Thanks for your very kind message it is appreciated...
  • I can totally understand - signing on is probably the last thing you feel like at the moment.
It's worth bearing in mind that you are entitled to up to 2 weeks sickness while on JSA, so if you are not well enough to look for work at the moment don't be afraid to use this.

  • I'm sorry for your loss - I'm not surprised that you don't want to leave the house.

When my daughter was on JSA last year, she was sick with vomiting and diarrhoea and couldn't sign on. The JC sent out a form for her to sign, but as it took a couple of days to send the form out and return it, her benefit was delayed by a few days. I don't know if it is the same with bereavement, but if you do have to sign a form that is sent out, you might get your money a bit later than usual.
