does it need to be 3D? I am fully expecting 3D to be a short fad and only is getting so much push because the manufacturers are trying to grab more money off the consumer so they are trying to force every single movie into 3D even when they are not supposed to be in 3D ie the new harry potter movie has been filmed and directed for 2D yet WB are putting their 3D over it which I rekon wil ruin the movie.

Does the xbox do 3D gaming now?

The pans better for gaming as its much lower 'input lag'. I think 3D tvs with 'specs' needed are a fad. But 3D is here to stay

  • I agree with the Fad comment. will you have enough 3D specs to go round when visitors arrive? do you really want to sit down to a nights telly wearing viewing glasses. Think about the eye strain! apart from that Panasonic would be my choice.

just buy something like this, then bank the spare money and then if (and thats one big if) 3D takes off you can buy an equivilent of todays 'top of the range' (and a bit better) 3D TV for a lot cheeper in a couple of years time AND you then end up with 2 awesome TVs for the price of just the one you could buy now.

the TV I have linked will be as good for gaming as any TV is comes with HD freeview, DLNA streaming, USB capable of HD DivX, 4 HDMIs, LED backlit, 100Hz. what more can you ask for?
  • Hubby wants a 3D TV! SO expensive. I'm watching this thread with interest.

My friend has just got a samsung from pc world 42" about £1000 with blue ray player and 3 sets of glasses there normally £75.
I was there when he set it up and I was quite quite excited to see how it would perform compared to cinema 3d as that is amazing.
Conclusion nothing like the cinema but does give a feeling of depth within the screen unlike the cinema where objects appear in front of your face also watched call of duty 3d on Xbox looks ok but overall did not make me want to rush out and get a 3d tele.
Go in store and have a go would be my advise.

True , but right now your buying a 3D tv when they are new , and a lot more expensive . i remember a few years ago when a decent Plasma 40" would set you back several grand .

personally i do not think 3D will not become standard for TV / Blu Ray ect for quite a while , if ever .

it's telling that the next Batman Movie will be 2D only as will the The Hobbit . Inception was the big blockbuster special effects success this year , again in 2D . one reason for that is that it wasn't competing for the few 3D screens most cinema's have , and could get a longer run and a lot more revenue by being standard def . that and the fact it was a cracking film that didn't need gimmicks to get people through the door .

if you like gimmicky films , then feel free to splurge your hard earned , but personally i would get a very decent HD TV and then a good standard Home cinema system with the cash you will save .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:
