Yes .. I wasn't suggesting you were wrong. Just that there isn't an inbuilt variability that allows creditors a 'please yourself' mentality - which is how you could have been read. But weekends etc can bend the dates regularly - but always backwards.

I have to say that I'm amazed by this.

If what you say is true then, whilst you may incur late payment default fees, there is only a 1 in 30(ish) chance of the late payment affecting your credit rating.

More than that I reckon - it depends on whether or not you've paid off the late payments by then. At least that's how I read it...

  • Well I know HBOS cards will report any late payment to the credit reference agency no matter about dates or anything.
  • All card companies use the fear of a "black mark" on your credit file to get you to pay. Trust me I've worked everything from accounts at 5 days in arrears to accounts at 120 days in arrears. 5 years of it opens your eyes.

HBOS are so kind and considerate, wonderful people, that is why when they make a mistake I have my pound of flesh.I would rather crawl over broken glass ,than give them the opportunity to report a default. The first thing you do ,the very first when you get a new card ,set up a direct debit ,confirm the name of the person taking your request, and monitor the transaction online banking,if the money does not go out ,call.

Surely they are doing the right thing by reporting it? They wouldn't be responsible lenders if they didn't report it.

I think the bit you highlighted in bold in your quote from Kenshaz doesn't mean what you think it means...

You will almost certainly get a mark on your credit file I'm afraid, and it will show for what I believe is 6 years.

And the bank can't do anything about it unless it was them that made the mistake, so there's not much point asking them.

Not true. MBNA do not report to the credit ref agency until the account is more than 60 days late. They also give you a days grace period too until the payment charge applies.

HBOS---More than my job's worth attitude, over zealous, just give individuals the opportunity to make corrections ,that would be responsible. If other lenders have different policy ,it is not down to a requirement.
