Resolving Car Insurance Claim- MAJOR HEADACHE!

Last year (Dec 2009) i had a minor car accident which i admitted was fully my fault. car inurance details were traded and, rather than lose my no claims bonus of 3 years i resolved the full sum of the claim with the other persons insurer (Aviva). This all went very smoothly and i thought it was all resolved untill about two weeks ago i received my car insurance renewal quote from my company (ibuyeco), which was quoted around £1500 i looked on the back of the letter to see i had no no claims bonus, it said accidental damage £tbc. i phoned them and they said it was a hire car company that the other party had used in the time his car was in for repair. I hadnt been informed of this at all and was shocked as it was a claim for £255. The company was driveassist, which i know are terrible to deal with. To date i have had little contact with them, as it costs so much to ring their helplines due to being put on hold all the time, when i do get through and ask for a call back they never ring me back. I am posting really as i am wondering what my options are? i cant renew my insurance (which is due on the 19th Nov) with 3 years no claims, because till this claim is fully paid and closed i dont have any no claims bonus. Are there any insurers offering a cheap monthly insurance cover? and have any of the companys done anything wrong in not informing me about this claim? finally is there such thing as an insurance ombudsman who can offer me advice and maybe help speed the payment of this claim? any advice would be greatly appreciated as i am very upset about all of this! sorry about waffling on!

you can give the money to your insurance company, they should give you your NCB back0

Sorry, I assumed your company had paid it already, if they haven't (and you don't dispute it) then instruct them to pay it and you'll settle with them & get your NCB back.
I suppose you might want to think about the possibility of an injury claim appearing as often they go hand in hand with credit hire cars0
