I love Christmas BUT I have a tree that goes up on Christmas Eve and comes down on Boxing Day-that's long enough for me!!
Go hopefully into each new day, enjoy something from every day no matter how small, you never know when it will be your last

This is the first year I'll be putting up a tree and I'm 31 :)

Every other year since I left my parents' home I've gone there for Christmas and my mother does the full tree/lights/hanging decorations/outside lights bit. I never bothered at my own place. This year with the small girl will be our first family Christmas at home the three of us and we are getting a tree. I think she'll love it, I will love it and Husband will love that we love it ;)

    Three gifts left to buy
  • It's a slippery slope! Not bothering is a mistake - it's good for us to make the effort!
  • Nope, no tree in our house!

I work every Christmas Day and we have 13 cats - Tree up = Tree down very quickly!

Nothing like the crashing sound of a tree hitting the floor and a million baubles rolling around at 2am in the morning to put you off bothering ...

Saying that - we are having an extension next year (built FOC by FIL who is a builder) So next Christmas I may put one up in the new dining room - away from little minxy paws!!!

I love christmas. Its a nice family time.

I don't go overboard with decorations. Just a tree, door wreath, and something on the mantle piece. I usually have some novelty item for the kids.

I've always LOVED Christmas, start playing the songs in *blush* October... telling everyone how many days are left til the big day and all that....

One of the highlights of the year is putting up the tree with Mr Sessie, with Jack Dee DVDs on in the background (even though we know EVERY word, we still die laughing) with some candles on the mantlepiece. He's not anywhere NEAR as into it as I am but he humours me bless him.

We didn't have a tree last year because we have twins who were, at that point, 18 months old.... you can guess why!!

We are going to put ours up (fake one, big one) this year and take our chances as I really didn't feel the same last year. I foresee many many MANY hours of saying, "no.. no... leave it alone" now the children are 2.5!!!

However, I totally understand your feelings and at the end of the day it's YOUR house. You do as YOU please, and enjoy the time all the more!!

my hubbys nan has a tree which goes on the wall. she has loads of cats and it is the only place she found they didn't attack it. It was like a flat half of a tree. very bizzare but worked well, and looked pretty decorated.

When our tortie/siamese cat was with us she was a little pickle. you'd be walking past the tree then all of a sudden she would jump out on you, lol. was very funny but didn't half scare ya.lol.

lucky the 3 cats we have now don't really bother. Jeff will attempt to try ( he looks like and is the size of garfield, lol) bit too much effort for him really.Barry likes to climb over the pressies and pretend it not really him, and that you can't see him. and as for sabrina, well she wouldn't notice unless she had to . she wants her food, her stay out all night jaunts and a comfy bed. anything else isn't important.lol.

but were planning on getting a couple more cats after xmas. so next yr might be another story.

Thers are small artificial trees complete with lights that could sit on a sideboard or small table. I have one and put out a FEW Christmas things on my mantlepiece. IF I didn't have grandchildren I probably wouldn't bother. I give presents but have cut back on them and the cards, donating a bit extra to charity instead because I feel that this time of year is just over-hyped hoo ha.
I use a mini 3 ft artificial tree. I still decorate it with lights and baubles, etc, like a "normal" tree but it takes very little time to put up, decorate, strip and pack away. When we were expecting our first child I was worried about Christmas trees toppling over on to the baby so this was my compromise - out of reach on a table top. The other bonus is: it was Tesco value (something ridiculous like 3 or 5 pounds). I do sometimes think about a big, "normal" tree but the youngest is too young and I quite like the ease and simplicity of my mini tree.

I used to go crazy about xmas, I did for years. Especially when the kids were small, I used to enjoy it but also get myself so stressed. We always had a tree and tons of decorations.
And then one year when the kids were 10 and 12, we thought sod it and booked a last minute holiday to Mexico. It was amazing we got home on 23rd dec, had a quick shop for xmas dinner stuff, and had the most relaxed xmas ever!
The kids loved it, so did we, and we have done the same thing every year since!
So when everyone is picking their tree, I'm picking my bikini!
