Also available for booking now are Festive Short Breaks from £99 - Christmas and New Year trips, including DFDS Ferries annual New Year Gala Cruise Break to Amsterdam, and their Christmas Markets cruise breaks to Hamelin.

Christmas shopping

Our next newsletter in Mid November will be full of news about Christmas shopping in Calais and vouchers from selected shops.

In the meantime we are busily updating our Christmas Shopping page, giving details of Sunday openings and other events that will be of interest to channel shoppers. If you are planning a shopping trip, check this page before you go, as it is constantly being updated.

Hotels

With fares so cheap its worthwhile staying overnight and spending more time shopping, or going to a restaurant. Hotels at ACCOR (Sofitel, Novotel, Mercure, IBIS, Suite Hotel, ETAP, Formule 1) and through Europe's largest hotel booking agent, Active hotels, can now be booked via https://www.day-tripper.net. Packages may be easier to book, but we find its much cheaper booking directly yourself with both cross channel companies and hotels.

The P&O £20 Dover-Calais day trip fare has an additional £10 fuel surcharge which they don't tell you about until you book :(

However, Norfolk Lines (Dover-Dunkirk) are doing an £18 return including fuel surcharge for car+up to 5 people.

If they are applying a £10 surcharge they are guilty of misleading advertising. This is from the https://www.day-tripper.net site:

PO Ferries - Daytrips from £20, Shortbreaks from £54, Long breaks £74 (return) - Book all routes here, web discount, no fuel surcharge, no CC charges.

That seems to be true! Nice one.

If you go via the day-tripper link, the P&O booking screens say "A fuel surcharge will be added to the cost of your booking to reflect increases to the worldwide oil price. This charge is up to £6 per vehicle each way on the Dover-Calais route. The charge is not included in the fare shown and will be added later in the booking."

However, when you get to the final screen, there is no fuel surcharge so the total is £20 as per the day-tripper site. When you follow the day-tripper link to the P&O website, it looks like there is a promptional code of RM0104 on the P&O booking which cancels the fuel surcharge. If you remove the promotional code, the fuel surcharge gets added.

My first post, but am a frequent visitor to the site. Thanks for info re Day-tripper offer. Have been searching for weeks for a special offer to stock up for daughter's 30th birthday bash and Christmas too. Booked a trip for monday at £20 complete for the return. So very many thanks.....

If this is still the case it's scandalous. Prices of oil have fallen considerably since the high in the Summer.
