It's £20 for each missed appointment and a further £20 for not giving you the first £20 within ten days. I just got £80 from British Gas for two missed appointments. Did have to request it though and argue a bit.0

Does the meter serial number on your bill match up with tjat on the actual meter?
Did your supplier definitely bill you to the correct final reading on the old meter?
I would very carefully check the bill produced which shows the meter change on it? Does this make sense?
I strongly suspect the billing has not been done when the meter was changed. Even if they have since reflected the meter change on a bill, has it been calculated correctly?
It is certainly not unknown for amended bills to be calculated totally wrongly. This may well have happened here.0 -
I have to say you seem sharp enough in working out your own usage with your own readings and I assume your calculations are pretty near the mark.
Probably not what you want to hear, but perhaps a "heads up" for others, if you know what you use in a week and you cancel your DD, it may be prudent to "put by" in a jar or bank a/c the amount to cover it...that way when the bill arrives (and it will eventually) after all the disputes etc, you will still be expected to pay for what you used...unless of course you were hoping in all the confusion and dispute...you don't get asked to pay for what you actually used...
I suppose the bottom line is...you used it...you knew what you used...the energy company couldn't get their act together to determine accurately what you used until now...but the bill is still due...yes you may get a gesture of some sort for their inneptitude...but they'll probably still want paid...I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0 -

I'm not desputing the fact that i owe what i've used. The point here is they have not used the meter readings when taken and when given and not reassessed my usage, as per their agreement.
I have been telling them all along that they have got it wrong. I have taken my own readings at the begining, at the meter swap and throughout the whole of this year. They still haven't managed to get me the bill i should be paying.
I am also poniting out that this seems to be a way to keep you in their custom whilst not actually giving you a clear view of where you are at. I would of preffered to pay the extra X amount of £'s over the last year rarther than be stuck with a huge debt.. just before christmas. As now i will have to suffer the demands and threats untill i pay it off. It is only then that i will be free to change to a better supplier. Believe me they can't be much worse!! Npower are useless or maybe they are just very crafty!! I suppose it's all subjective.0 -
I filled out a complaint on line and they looked at my bill from the beggining and realised they had been billing me on the old meter and assesed my usage on that. The long and short of it all is they knocked £1,050 off my £2200 bill. :j
Then they signed me up to thier online tarrif and let me pay the debt off over 4 years, along with the bonuses of online tarrif & duel feul they are sending me an energy monitor. So i'm quite glad i came here to post as i wouldn't of known about the 12 month back billing rule. Thanks to Premier for the info.
Also i learn't of a good offer they are doing at the moment. roll of loft insulation for £3. I'm getting 9 rolls delivered this Thursday.. FREE delivery too. :rotfl:
They wont let me link but you can google '£3 npower insulation'
you don't have to be a Npower customer either.0
