Cheapest way to travel to London?

I don't know if this is in the right place or not?

Me and my friend are planning on going to London in Jan for my birthday. Neither of us have ever been, and want to know the cheapest way to travel from Glasgow.

I know the bus is £22 return per person, but it takes 9 hours!!
We are only going for the weekend, so 9 hours each way is a bit much. Does anyone know any alternatives, for about the same price, which doesn't take as long?

EDIT: planning on going 28th-30th of Jan.

thanks

The cheapest train fare is £12 each way - but you are unlikely to get that for a weekend trip, and even midweek they are few and far between. The cheapest fare I could find at random was £17.50 single on a Wednesday in mid-January.

You could look at flying - that can be surprisingly cheap but it won't beat the bus.

The trains around 5 hours but I doubt you will get any change out of £60 each.
Flying may be cheaper but you have all the hassle + expense of getting to/from airports

Presume that you're looking at Megabus fares, at £22 return?

National express coaches would take from 8 hours 15 minutes to 11 hours 15 minutes and cost from £31.00 return; trains would take from 4 hours 33 minutes to 5 hours 44 minutes and can cost from £216.80 return; Easyjet return flights around 1 hour 25 minutes from Glasgow to Gatwick from around £41 return in January.
  • Just a quick line - How about the Sat telegraph offer with virgin trains? You may find it on this site.
  • Hi, All Megabus seats from Glasgow to London so far (til mid Jan are £5 pp each way taking 10hrs.
Could try Prestwick to Stansted with Ryanair (1150-1305) at £14.00 single if going by rules of how to get cheap flights ( prepaid mastercard, on board luggage etc bla bla), and £18 return. There is an Easyjet bus picking up from and to airport/central London, with many fares from £2 pp each way, and you dont need to fly easyjet to use it.
Can also fly easyjet but more expensive and flies to Gatwick, and transferring is slightly more expensive.
If you could go on Thu instead of Friday, you would save a fair bit, but the extra night hotel costs would counteract it.
Also to add a bit of fun, you can try from Edinburgh via Dublin as it would be the same distance as Prestwick, with a few hours there too, sameish price...... Lots of options. Best spend ages on Ryanair/Easyjet and Megabus....to be honest, I would say definitely fly. No point is scrimping over £20 pound each when your legs ache for 10 hrs.Enjoy though.
