I had a home visit for my girl. I think if the dog is in familiar surroundings there will be less stress, and less likelihood of the vet having to struggle/sedate, which might not be so nice for the owner :(
I have always asked for home visits for this unless in emergency. I was quite surprised that our vet brought a 'young apprentice' to help (I can do the 'assistant' thing myself), but my girl was very happy to see extra people with biscuits! Although she was very young, I think it was easier to call 'time' than with an old dog who is just slowly 'wearing out', without anything terminal actually being wrong.

Never a fun time, whatever the reason :(

Our old boy went to the Vet to be PTS earlier this year. We knew we would have to make the decision as he had cancer & we did not want invasive treatment due to age & other medical issues. As it happens we knew the right day for him, his whole face dropped one night :( but it was still a hard day.

I think you know that his time is near & it is time to say goodbye. Chris n TJ posted rainbow bridge on my thread & this is such a wonderful poem, I am sure someone will post it soon.

Part of the problem is that you may make the decision to take the poor dog to the vet that last time, and it's as if the dog knows because he rallies and really perks up. I've had that happen and you end up not knowing what to do for the best.

It really does break your heart.:(

Yes this happened to me, had the appointment booked for a monday and then sunday night he decided that he felt much better - i still took him to the vets tho and even the vet couldnt believe how much better he seemed. This actually happened twice before the day came, where we knew that this was the day.
