How long do you give people to pay?

I have a gut instinct that this buyer isn't going to pay but it's only been 3 evenings so maybe I'm being impatient. I sent her an invoice yesterday morning as a gentle reminder (99% of the time I don't bother invoicing as people just pay me) and I've had zero response. She is a newbie with 0 feedback score and a join date of 28th August.

Can I ask how long you normally give people before writing it off and relisting the item? Thanks :D

I state on my auctions that they must pay within 7 days, 3 days is still early but if I ever buy anything I always tell the seller how I intend to pay and when not long after the auction ends.

I am waiting for 2 buyers to pay 1 from Sept (keeps saying they want the item) and 1 from 6 Oct (waiting for a response). Drives me nuts, I would rather they just say if they have changed their mind.

I wait 7 days and after that file a NBP claim next day. Funnily enough I too have a buyer with 0 feedback who hasn't responded to any emails yet.

I tend not to even worry for a week, then I'll send a gentle reminder and depending on the buyers feedback and previous bidding history start an NPB between day 8-11.

FloFlo, don't wait any longer for your buyers as you'll run out of time to NPB them, in fact I think you might already be out of time for the 1st September one. Put in a dispute immediately, let them pay up or take the consequences, don't wait weeks and lose you fees on something that is not going to be paid for.

  • Everything I sell is on BIN, so most people go through checkout straight away and pay via PayPal. If they don't, I'll send an invoice after 3 days, a reminder invoice at 7 days and file an NPB at 10 days.

7 days then file a NPB

usually if they have 'forgotten', the NPB email from ebay reminds them

after the 14th day i strike and get my fees back
    money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

After the 5th day they get a polite email asking them if they still want the item. Then after the 7th day they get a NPB alert. If after about the 9th day they still havn't paid I ask ebay for their telephone contact details. I don't know why but theres something about asking for their phone number that always gets them into action. I think it must be the prospect of having to talk to an irate ebay seller in person rather than through the safety of a computer. Most of the time you don't even have to phone them, just getting the number is enough.

If there has been no contact I just do as Black Saturn says and follow ebay guidelines with an e-mail at around day 5, after that it is straight into the NPB proccess.

I used to spend hours chasing up buyers and mostly its a waste of time and effort.

    So:-

Day 2-3 send invoice (a polite reminder)
    Day 4-5 send e-mail reminder
    Day 7 Start NPB

what would you do if there is a time limit on your item being saleable?

I have sold a ticket that is for an event early next week (my teenager changed their mind about going!) - someone bought via bin on tues but no contact since - their feedback is a bit iffy and I reckon they may have changed their mind but I can't wait if I want to resell....
  • on BIN (Buy it Now) I always use immediate payment by paypal. so much less strssful than anyother means, but a bit expensive the old paypal. wilma.
