Will this affect my benefits?

I am currently pregnant and in receipt of Income Support and other benefits. My ex has said he would like to transfer £350 straight into my bank account to put towards buying things the baby will need.
I am just concerned if I need to declare this and if it will affect my benefits. It would not be spent on bills or day to day items, but would only be spent on a cot, etc
Should I ask him to give it to me in cash or would that appear devious? I don't know what to do for the best

It won't affect your benefits and you don't need to declare it. Will your ex be paying you maintenance for the child when its born? If so you'll be able to keep this too without it being taken into account from your Income Support."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

I'd just ask him to give you the cash and then just get the baby things...it's only £350 for God's sake.
Or if you're THAT bothered ask him to buy the stuff himself and give it to you, or go with him, point out what you want and let him pay.0 -
Although maintenance doesn't affect benefits any longer it is must be declared to the DWP.sammyjammy wrote: »Will your ex be paying you maintenance for the child when its born? If so you'll be able to keep this too without it being taken into account from your Income Support.*SIGH*

I did say if you get money then you will have to tell the DWP that is not advocating fraud.
If she is given things as gifts then she does not have to tell anyone. If it is money or items. My wording might of been wrong but was in no attempt advocating fraud. I was not meaning deceiving the DWP. If I was mis-understood then I apologize.0 -
If she is given things as gifts then she does not have to tell anyone. .
She has to inform them if the gift takes her over capital limits.
Bit to be clear, you said :If he gives you cash then there is no paper trail so he has no proof that money has been given.
Sometimes you have to deceive a little
Which is rubbish advice anyway as if its child maitenance its now fully regarded for benefit purposes (subject to limits).

It doesn't count as child maintenance until after the child is bornI'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0
