my XP laptop stoped seeing my memory cards

My SDHC memory cards used to work fine in my Dell laptop with XP. Until about two weeks ago when the laptop stopped seeing them. The reader still work with an old SD card, the cards are ok in the camera or in a Vista laptop.

I don't know what it can be, maybe sp ''updated'' itself , can't think of anything else...
The same cards, the same laptop used to work fine. now the cards work in a Vista laptop and this laptop's reader works fine with a SD card

Does anyone have any ideas what can I do? It is very annoying as the same thing happens on both my XP laptops, I had to visit a friend and get the pictures on his Vista laptop and take them on a memory stick....

Try a System Restore (to a point in time when all was well) in first instance.
