Any ASDA employees out there?

Junior has recently started working in our local ASDA and on the way home, he made about a comment about clocking out.
Basically, he was saying that he had been told by other members of staff that if he clocked out before the clock had reached the hour (eg clocked out at 6.58 rather than 7.00) then he wouldn't be paid that hour's work?
Is this correct ?
I wouldn't expect him to be paid for the hour if he hadn't completed it but I would have expected him to be paid for at least 45mins, if not the 58 mins!

Most companies have in place rules that you have to do a complete time period to get paid whether it be 15 minutes, 30 minutes or an hour and that even one minute late or early would lose you that time period. If Asdas time period is an hour and he clocks out a minute early then he'd lose that hour. If its 15 minutes, he'd lose that 15 minutes.
Is his life really that bad that an extra 2 minutes wait is an impossibility?0 -
"junior" shouldn't be leaving the shop floor before the schedueled end of his shift anyway, even if he's stacking shelves there's something he can do to fill the 5 minutes at the end of a shift between putting the last of his cage/pallet out and his finishing time - even if it is just being available should someone need help finding something!Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

Maybe try reading the op again bluenoseam ......
OP states that "junior" was told by another employee ! No-where in the post does it mention that "junior" has ever physically clocked out or even considered clocking out before the correct time !
The question was a hypothetical one ......The loopy one has gone :j0 -

the employee who told junior might be right, it does make sense though, just tell junior to make sure he clocks out at 7 (or whatever time he finishes) or just after, that way he is going by asda rules and wont be docked money0 -
I have just started on a seasonal contract with them and It does not mention this in the employee handbook as far as I saw. I suspect it would be counted towards "lateness" and if you get 60 minutes lateness over a certain period it does get reviewed by management. Lateness is counted on a minute for minute basis (e.g 2 minutes late clocking in means 2 minutes lateness).0

I read bluenoseam's post to be similar to yours actually! It appeared to me that he/she was suggesting that as Junior would be keeping occupied up to end of shift anyway, it shouldn't be of concern to him as there would not be a problem. A response was given, also hypothetically..."Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."

ok so say your late by 5 minutes and you stay on for 5 minutes eg start at 9 05 but clock out at 9 06 would it still be counted as lateness even though you stayed on 6 minutes at the end0 -

Yes it would, I think.
They want you there at 0900, not six minutes past. Therefore if you get there at six minutes past, you are late. The fact that you have done the right amount of hours is irrelevant, I would say.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

If they're supposed to be taking someone off the till they will be annoyed at having to stay an extra 5 minutes. Also, if you're claiming 5 mins is acceptable then what about 10? 20? They want you there at that time, not 4 hours later.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

yes it would make sense, im not an asda employee but i was a JS employee and from what i remember you still got paid for the full day if i was late by 5 minutes but stayed on after end of the shift to make up the time0
