Oh dear, yet another over reaction.

Still most domestic ink weighs a great deal less than that but I assuem it will hit some big business sellers who sell in large quantities.

However, it has struck me that if sending an item in the UK or the EU how exactly are the government going to know what is in a package? No customs declaration, no restrictions on general parcels. When was the last time a terrorist wrote 'danger-toner ink' on a parcel?

I rang the post office I use, and they hadn't heard of any restrictions yet. They also said how would they know what was in a parcel posted UK to UK, as nothing is declared. Of course when you live in N.I. everything posted to the UK mainland goes airfreight....lol and I have just been given a huge quantity of toner cartridges to sell...lol (liquidated stock) some do weigh ofver 500grms but will call the powers that be on Monday to see what to do..

Every so often they feel the need to do this, just so we don't forget about terrorism which, to my knowledge at least, has only produced one serious bombing in mainland Britain in the last decade. Northern Ireland is a different kettle of fish, but on some level they think that keeping people paranoid somehow justifies their existence.

I still remember when they took litter bins out of the Underground - the threat was more real from the IRA though. Ironically they were going to put them back and then July 7 happened, or something like that.

Not sure that Ebay have quite got that right. The statement from Theresa May actually says:

"From midnight tonight, we will suspend the carriage of toner cartridges larger than 500g in passengers' hand baggage on flights departing from UK airports

Also from midnight tonight, we will prohibit the carriage of these items by air cargo into, via or from the UK unless they originate from a known consignor – a regular shipper with security arrangements approved by the Department for Transport."

I would imagine that all the couriers or the royal mail would already be approved by The department of Transport and 'into, via or from' doesn't mean within.

Has anyone sent ink cartridges over the 500gms? Was in my local PO this morning and casually asked about sending ink, the the postmistress said "Oh we dont send any ink" clearly wrong and not what is on the PO website. Who do I call for clarification on sending this? any ideas?

By Air?
I assume that posting toner via Royal Mail 1st class will still be ok?

EDIT: To another destination withion mainland UK of course

That is the thing posting 1st class Royal mail, sometimes goes by air. Almost al the post leaving N.I. goes Air to the mainland. and if you were posting to scotland from the south of england there is a good chance that it would go by air also.
