how does the BBC do the moveable widgets in their website, see link.

I've got Visual Web Developer 2008 express plus Dreamweaver 8 and also Kompozer. Will one of these help with the coding etc etc.. is it html, xhtml, ajax, java or other?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The site is http://www.bbc.co.uk/

Thanks.

You can do this using javascript. Check out the Glow API documentation, which they have now open sourced.
In particular this reference demonstrates how to use the API to implement the drag n drop.

I'd also put you in the direct of jQuery which is another very powerful javascript library - takes a lot of the hassle / cross browser niggles away from you. (BBC site was originally built on jQuery before they developed their own Glow library)
  • Thanks ahillsy, will look into this. (do you know which one will work with Visual Web Developer? or is the code the same for all formats)

Both will - its just javascript and what editor/dev environment you use does not matter - you could use notepad even if you wanted to :)
