    Hi!
Has anyone tried (and would you recommend) the LED GU-10s on ebay from the far east, which are a fraction of the price of the ones available over here?
    Thanks
    Kevin

Yes. I took a huge risk and ordered 20 of the "4W white" GU10s and am VERY impressed. My living room uses 12, my kitchen 6 and the bathroom 2 and all are plenty bright enough - nearly as bright as the 50W halogens but not quiet. The savings in electricity are significant too.

That said I have just noticed that 12v MR16 LEDs are available now which would make life easier.[/url]

I would be careful with changing halogen MR16 with LED MR16s straight away, as they require a different type of transformer, and if you use LED lights with your current transformers meant for LEDs, it is very likely they will melt the LED lights soon.

Anyway, I don't see why you say LEDs are so expensive when you picked a GU10 bulb for £11 too... you can easily get an LED for this, and the lifespan is probably much longer - which is why it is worth buying them.

Kevin, the thing about eBay and Chinese suppliers: what do you do if they turn out to be faulty - which happens sometimes even with the best manufacturers. My impression is, the more product details are included in the description, the more reliable the product will be. With local suppliers, look for those who give at least a year warranty. Otherwise, don't bother with them.

Thanks - which vendor did you use on ebay?

I'd love to tell you, but as they never left me feedback they don't appear in my history, so no idea :(

Lesson to all Ebayers - leave feedback or you might miss out on another sale!!!
