Ours goes all the time, one even to the extent that it went bang and the glass bulb seperated from the screw on casing leaving that still in the socket.

  • I had the same problem and got in touch with the manunfacturer. They told me not to simply get the correct size bulb but get a cooker bulb instead because they were designed to be used horizontally in the heat. Are the bulbs that everyone above has had problems with proper high temp spec or just std ones?
    Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Mortgage rate 0.75% = 5.75% profit on £75K = £4500 per year:j

Yes, special cooker bulbs should be much better as they can cope with the heat, either from the oven or due to the enclosed space.

Eventually bought some low energy Helix bulbs (need to watch you get the right fitting - normally ES or SES with hoods).

Whilst I would usually recommend the energy saving fluorescent bulbs, it depends on the type of cooker hood.
If they are exposed to heat from the cooker or steam then it could damage the electronics in the lamp base.
If the normal bulbs just get hot due to being enclosed in a small space then it should be OK as the energy saving ones don't produce as much heat, as long as they fit OK.

Deep breath and... restart the thread! Because one might as well read the history here as it confirms exactly what is happening to me!

    - The supplied bulbs in Bosch cooker hood started to blow 3 months after installation.

    - So I thought I was clever by buying Philips 'long life especially designed for cooker hoods because they vibrate' ones from Waitrose at £2.99 each.

Which have now both blown after 3 months.

These are 40W ones with the tiny screw thread - I want 40W replacements.

    Is there a solution?

(BTW why do car bulbs that are horizontal, small and get vibrated a lot reliably last for 100s of hours?)
