I just went to our local Argos to check these out. They had none on display, but adverts in the window for this product.

However the adverts in the window illustrated a completely different model to the one online. (Same Argos cat. number). Anyone else found this?

It is a completly different model than that shown on the posters and in the in-shop flyer. The picture on hte website is correct, tho.
  • Does the Argos one play Divx ?
  • Does the Argos one play Divx ?

I don't think so - It states DVD, CD-R/RW, JPeg and MP3 compatible.

    Thanks.

It looks like they have shown the picture of the alba model on the posters & flyers by mistake.

I got a larger AS DVD player for a relative a while back and the remote has the most awkward unintuitive difficult-to-find buttons for basic functins I have ever used - it really put me off the brand.

I've tried all the AS hacks I could find last night and none of them worked - I guess this is a new supplier for AS an not based on previous chipsets...

Don't know if this will work, but this product is from the same supplier as the Tesco Value DVD player.

Here is the hack for Tesco Value DVD player:
    1. Press the Open button on your remote control to open the drive tray
    2. Press the Setup button on your remote control
    3. Press the Next button on your remote control
    4. Press the Next button on your remote control
    5. Press the Next button on your remote control
    6. Press the Next button on your remote control
    7. The currently selected region should be displayed on the onscreen display
    8. Using the Left button on your remote control, change the region to 1 for region 1, 2 for region 2, and so on, or 255 for multi-region playback
    9. Press the Setup button on your remote control

The next button maybe marked skip or >>|

Perhaps someone could advise if this works on the Argos Acoustic Solutions one?

EDIT: This has been confirmed by jjsmith that it does enable the machine to become multi-regional.

    Amendments:

At step 8, the region is selected by using the up or down arrows.

At step 9, you may need to press the Setup button twice to exit.

  • Just picked one up (nothing to lose and all that) and had a play with it. In a word... DIRE. Avoid this thing like the plague. The build quality (it's made entirely out of plastic) is non-exitstent. The thing makes some unbelievable grinding and squealing noises as it's playing and especially while it's moving around the disc. It's amazingly fussy over which discs it will and won't read. Discs which play perfectly well on my other players refuse to work at all, or keep stopping and jumping. It's the same with CD-Rs containing photos.. some worked and some didn't. On one disc it starting making loud clicking noises. I managed to get the thing out only to find a nice big scratch across the disc. The remote works when it feels like it, and the supplied batteries lasted exactly 11 button presses before dying.

Save your money, or add a few quid more and get something that works.
