OS Install On A Notebook??
UnderPressure

Hello All
I bought the wife a notebook earlier in the year, It is running like a bag of old washing so want to format it and re-install a fresh copy of XP onto it however it has no cd drive.
What is the best way of doing this? Ideally I wanted to boot the XP image from dos so I could ensure a clean hard drive format so I am presuming I will need to load the XP image onto a USB drive, how do I then get the machine to boot from the USB drive?
Thanks in advance

You need to have a 3.5/2.5 ide adapter http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Laptop-2-5-HDD-fullsize-IDE-adapter-/110607589919?pt=UK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item19c0b9e21f
I put xp on a thin client office box 300mhz ...slow!
edit this is a non-usb way, it may be easier if it can boot from usb.0 -
Ive installed win xp many times on notebooks/netbooks which dont have a cd drive . I found by far the quickest/easiest way is to use a external usb cd/dvd drive that way you can use a normal os boot disk
It is possible to load windows via a usb key/drive but i found it was just too much messing about imo

External CD/DVD drive is the way to go when install in XP on to a laptop with no CD
USB installs are virtually impossible to get to work if you're not a tech-head.Laters
