** Any electricians in the house??! **

Hi all,
I would like to buy a dimmer light switch for my daughter's bedroom for when my wife is feeding her at night time, as the main light in her room is far too bright.
However, I ain't no electrician. I can fit one no problem, as I've done so before, but the problem is which type to buy.
The main light has 2 x 40W G9 halogen bulbs in it.
I presume the term 'gang' means the number of knobs on it, i.e. lights it controls. I guess therefore I need a '1 gang' one.
However, do I buy a '1 way' or '2 way' switch?
And should I go for the 250W or 400W version? :undecided
I'm baffled!

Go for the higher rated version, and use a decent make (such as MK or GET)
Make sure the lamps you got with the fitting are of a decent make (osram, sylvania, phillips etc) otherwise the dimmer will die when the lamp pops at the end of it's life.
hope this helps.baldly going on...0 -
you will only need the 1 way one. two way is for if you have another switch controlling the same lights from somewhere elseJeremyMarried 9th May 20090

Ah.. erm, well I just bought 10 cheapy bulbs from Ebay. We have the same light fittings throughout the apartment, and the bulbs are forever blowing. It was costing me a fortune (£2.88 each from B&Q), so I picked up 10 from Ebay for a fiverGuess I shouldn't have then!
Thanks for your advice Jem8472 - a 1 way one it is then :beer:_________________________________________________

hope this helps. Please could you give me some advice on dimmer switches? We have one in the nursery, but it no longer works. It's just a normal light in there, but we only had it put in 6 months ago and it stopped working last month. Any suggestions?
