Hello,
further to this thread, I'm having similar issues.

Have ran Hitman pro which stated
'possible variant of DL3 (alureon) rootkit detected' and

'the device stack of the hard disk is referencing a hidden driver, this could affect detection of malicious files'

Uninstall the ASK toolbar from control panel - it is malware. Then run: http://autoclean.computersitter.com/documentation/li/ask-toolbar-remover

Ok, windows defender just found power reg and says it has removed it.

Just found this site to remove alureon from kaspersky, it seems to have had some positive action as I can now access windows update and microsoft and am not being redirected to other sites all the time.

Have got shut of avg and am trying avast.

Can you tell me how to get a log from hitman please, not sure from looking at it...
